Lintec makes a big impact at the National GridWritten by Graphic Display Community
Two of the UK's National Grid's buildings, located in Leicestershire, have recently enjoyed a revamp that has helped to provide employees with a much more inspiring workplace
Workplace enhancement specialists, Penacom, recommended that a combination of digitally printed wall panels and window films be used to provide colour and interest. Darryl Easton, Penacom's Project Manager, explained: "Our design team did a brilliant job putting together a collection of images that were supplied by National Grid's communications department in order to create various themes in different parts of the offices, while also keeping faith with the Grid's corporate identity". Penacom commissioned Coral Design & Display to print and install the window graphics, which comprised a wide variety of traditional seasonal landscapes, Formula One action photographs, various technologies, plus employees in their everyday workplace environments, both on and offsite, to effectively transform the offices' bog-standard glass partitions into the artworks that are such an attractive and appealing feature of the buildings' revamp. Coral's Commercial Director Mark Ward observed: "We produced a series of large format prints, using a CMYK ink set, plus an inline white ink, as this enabled us to produce mirror images on both sides of the glass, thus ensuring that the window graphics have real visual impact, whilst at the same time enabling a degree of translucency so that ambient light can filter through" In order to guarantee the best possible effects, Coral used Lintec Graphic Film's Vitrocolour(r) non-PVC process colour film, an optically clear polyester window film, which, unlike PVC materials, doesn't stretch or shrink, thus making it much easier to fit and remove whenever the graphics need to be refreshed, without leaving any unpleasant residues. Mark continued: "The film has a hard, anti-scratch coating that offers greater resistance to both mechanical scratching during installation and the usual cleaning processes, which helps to eliminate any haze effects. In addition, its glass-like see-through quality contrasts well with the printed areas". Glazing enhancement opens up a whole new spectrum of cost effective and flexible possibilities for architectural design and corporate branding, which is continually expanding as new products facilitate the creation of more innovative privacy designs and vibrant images.
